Wild Hearts Class Offerings – Jan/Feb

 

Core Skills –  All ages

Dedicated time to work independently on learner’s own math and/or language arts curriculum. Learners should bring their own device or other curriculum they are capable of working on independently for this class.

 

Science – Quantum Quest
Ms. Karen – Grades 4th+

Quantum Quest is a series of fun science challenges! In this ongoing hands-on quest, we will be exploring a variety of topics such as physical sciences, chemistry, physics, and STEM activities. You will collect your knowledge in a Q2 science “pocketbook”, and if you complete 8 challenges (not required to take the class), you will earn an official Q2 Level I certificate and recognition at the Wild Hearts Presentation Night in November! Upcoming projects: Continuation of rock tumbling necklaces & geology/weathering project, growing mushrooms, astronomy: galaxy nebulas, All about blood (we will be making artificial blood), Chemiluminescence, and we go big with a STEM Geodesic Dome Challenge!  *Some writing needed, but I can help those who need it. 

 

Science All Around Us
Ms Callie – Grades K-3rd 

In this class we will explore the idea that science is a way of exploring and understanding the world around us. Learners will understand that by asking questions, making observations, and experimenting, they are participating in science just like real scientists. We will start our journey by introducing the different ways that science is around us. Then we will explore the senses and how scientists use them to make observations. We will continue our journey of exploring and experimenting like scientists to explore things around us.  

 

Little Historians: A Journey Through the Countries of the World
Ms. Alisia – Grades K-1st

Join us as we explore the different countries of the world in our Little Historians class, specially designed for first grade and under! Each lesson will take us to a new country where we’ll learn about its unique culture and history. Afterward, we’ll enjoy a fun game that originated in that country, taste a delicious snack, or engage in an exciting activity related to that country!

 

Horses to Hoverboards: History and Innovation in the 20th Century
Mr. Rob – Grades 2nd+

Explore the incredible changes of the 20th century, one decade at a time! From major historical events to groundbreaking inventions and cultural shifts, this class takes a big-picture look at how life transformed—from the days of horses and buggies to the rise of space travel and hoverboards. Learners will uncover how each decade brought new ideas, challenges, and progress that shaped the world we live in today.

 

Learner-led Outdoor Ed/PE – All ages

Learners will discover the fun and excitment of the outdoors through independent creative play or group games and activities. In this class, children will have the ability to explore nature, engage in imaginative activities, and develop a deeper connection to the environment, and get their bodies up and moving for some fun and interactive group games and activities. From building forts or observing wildlife to mastering the jump rope or playing an exciting game of Capture the Flag, this class has something for everyone!

 

Explorers Workshop
Ms Callie 

Explorers Workshop is a hands-on, learner-driven class where curiosity leads the way! In this workshop, learners can take the lead by exploring their interests, asking questions, and diving into creative projects. Whether it’s crafting, baking, sewing, building, experimenting and investigating. Guided by their natural curiosity, learners will sharpen problem-solving skills, embrace creativity, and develop a love for learning through exploration and play.

 

 

Reasoning Roundtable
Mr. Rob – Grades 6+

Get ready to explore big ideas and sharpen your thinking skills in our fun and dynamic Socratic Discussion class! Students will engage in lively debates, ask thought-provoking questions, and challenge each other’s perspectives—all in a supportive environment. Along the way, they’ll dive into the concepts of logic, identify and avoid logical fallacies, and learn effective debate strategies to make their arguments more compelling. It’s all about sharing ideas, listening to others, and discovering new ways of thinking. Whether you’re a budding philosopher or simply curious about the world, this class is the perfect place to flex your mind and have fun with friends!

 

Young Learners
Ms. Alisia – TK-1st

Join us for an exciting journey where curiosity meets fun! In our Young Learners class, kids will dive into thrilling science experiments, embark on adventurous nature hunts, play engaging games, and unleash their creativity with awesome crafts. It’s the perfect blend of learning and play, designed to spark young minds

 

Woodworking
Mr Rob – Grade 3+ 

Learn the art of woodworking using only hand tools. From beginners to experienced woodworkers, everyone will enjoy crafting beautiful pieces while mastering traditional techniques. Join us to create and build with your own hands!

 

Independent Projects –  All ages

This class invites learners to follow their passions, whether exploring a specific topic or mastering a new skill. With guidance from an experienced mentor, students will learn how to set meaningful goals, delve into research, and practice techniques that deepen their understanding or enhance their abilities. They’ll discover how to evaluate resources, refine their methods, and overcome challenges as they work on personalized projects. From building expertise in a subject to honing a craft or talent, this class provides the tools and support to turn interests into meaningful growth and accomplishment.

 

 

Game On: Strategy Unleashed!
Ms. Callie – All ages

 In this class learners will engage in a variety of fun and challenging games designed to sharpen their critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. From board games to strategy-based card games and cooperative challenges. Each class will encourage learners to think strategically, plan ahead, and adapt to different situations. As they play, learners will also explore different approaches to strategy, decision-making, and collaboration in a supportive and engaging environment. Whether competing or working together, learners will build confidence and sharpen their minds through play! Perfect for game lovers who are ready to unleash their inner strategist!

 

Leadership
Ms. Roekmini –  Grades 4+

This class empowers learners to develop essential leadership skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Students will engage in interactive activities and group projects that encourage collaboration and creative thinking. They’ll explore what it means to lead with confidence and integrity while reflecting on their own strengths and areas for growth. Learners will help think of ways to foster a strong community feeling within our program, plan events for our community, and help put together the yearbook.

 

 

Papercrafting
Mr. Rob – All ages

In this engaging class, students of all ages will explore the art of papercrafting, learning to create stunning designs using just paper, scissors, and their imaginations. From simple origami to elaborate 3D sculptures, participants will develop fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, and patience as they cut, fold, and assemble unique creations. Along the way, they’ll also learn about symmetry, geometry, and creative problem-solving, while gaining confidence in transforming a flat sheet of paper into a work of art. Perfect for curious minds and creative hands, this class promises a blend of art, math, and fun!

 

Creative Crafting
Ms. Alisia –  All ages

Let your imagination soar as you explore a world of creative possibilities.  Design and build your own costumes, invent cool tools, and transform everyday items into extraordinary creations. Each session is filled with fun activities that encourage you to experiment, express yourself, and bring your wildest ideas to life. Perfect for crafters of all ages, this class offers endless possibilities for creative exploration and hands-on fun!
